Smith and Harmer named in AFLW Development Academy

Noosa Tigers AFC girls Bella Smith and Maggie Harmer have been selected in the AFLW Development academy and are among the top 17 sixteen year old’s in the country.

Whilst both girls played for Maroochydore in 2019 in the senior women’s QAFL competition, both girls have learnt their football craft at St Thomas More Catholic school and of course the Noosa Tigers.

Bella’s father Damien, commonly referred to as Butch has overseen both girls footy progress over the past 5 or 6 years. Butch himself, a senior premiership player for the Tigers says the girls have always ‘stood out’ in junior competitions across the Sunshine Coast. ‘I think the both of them playing alongside the boys has really helped their development.Whilst both Bells and Maggie were still very noticeable within the mixed competition I think it was much tougher than just playing girls age group footy. They are both really driven to make it into the AFLW ranks and to be selected in the top 17 in the country is at this stage another really positive stepping stone.’

Bella is a fast skillful onballer who is terrific around goal and has a good team orientated approach. Maggie is a courageous high marking utility player who stamps her input on the game very quickly.

Both have been fantastic throughout their short junior careers and both girls have excelled at senior level this year. To have two girls from the same club be picked in such an exclusive academy is just awesome. All at the Noosa Tigers wish Bella & Maggie well as they continue their journey.
