Tigers consolidate second spot!
The Rococo’s Bar and Bistro Noosa Tigers have moved two and half games clear of any rival in second position after a hard fought five goal victory over a gallant Coorparoo last weekend.
On a blustery Brisbane day the game looked evenly poised throughout the opening half with the navy blues seemingly able to answer Noosa’s forward movement. At the main break the Tigers held a slender four point lead with the tiger faithful not overly confident about what might happen next. However a superb third quarter by the Tigers saw the favourites lengthen their lead to a perfect four goals with the last stanza to come. The last quarter was an ebb and flow affair with both teams scoring consistently however the Tigers ran out 33 point victors.
Skipper Aaron Laskey was just huge all day for Noosa as his reading of the play and his ability to turn defence into attack a highlight for all those to see. Footy manager Mitch Woods again produced a sublime performance across half back and through the midfield to continue his stellar season in the same vein as Laskey. Up forward big man Jake Stewart produced another strong showing as the business end of the year gets closer. Kent Delbridge booted six goals in a fantastic display of goal kicking as on-baller Nick Hill booted four last quarter goals to ensure the Tigers stay just half a game off top spot with five games to go.
The experience of Danny O’Brien was on show at Coorparoo on Saturday as the 38 year old shone with 3 majors in a classy display up forward with special mention also to youngster Rhys Tarling who played his first senior game for 2018 and certainly did not disappoint. No game this week for the seniors due to the representative weekend in Brisbane and a big congrats to Laskey,Templeton, Fitzpatrick, McDonald, Stack, Holt, Boardman and Kenny who were all selected in this year’s representative squad to play North Queensland at Aspley this Saturday. Whilst I know at least half of those just named are carrying a few niggles all the best to any of the Tiger boys who get the chance to don the South Queensland guernsey.
Great wins to the reserves and colts also last weekend with our under 18 boys playing western Districts in Brisbane this Saturday in another must win encounter.
